The 2008 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable will arrive in showrooms this summer bearing Top Safety Pick ratings by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the government’s highest available five-star ratings in all crash test categories.
The IIHS’ “Top Safety Pick” rating can only be earned by vehicles that achieve the best-available safety performance in frontal, side and rear collisions and offer electronic stability control. In addition to being the only large family cars to merit IIHS’ Top Safety Pick rating, these sedans stand alone for also earning five-star driver and passenger crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
“It’s a true testament to the safety engineering of these vehicles that they achieved top crash test ratings from both IIHS and NHTSA,” said Sue Cischke, senior vice president of Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering, Ford Motor Company. “Ford and Volvo worked together to leverage our technical and intellectual resources to create this outstanding vehicle architecture, and now it’s better than ever. These cars offer it all: safety, power, spaciousness, comfort and great features, all at a great value.”
The Insurance Institute also gave both vehicles its highest rear impact rating for offering effective protection against neck injuries, as well as its highest front and side impact ratings for withstanding intrusion into the occupant compartment.
The structure of the Taurus and Sable is engineered with crush zones designed to direct excess energy around the passenger compartment into a high-strength safety cage. An innovative cross-car beam “SPACE™ Architecture” under the front seats reinforces the structure between the B-pillars, which helps direct energy away from passengers.
Both vehicles offer an industry first two-row Safety Canopy™ side air bag system that provides additional protection not only in side impact collisions, but also deploys in rollover accidents. Side-impact protection comes from a combination of air bag technology and structural features that help safeguard occupants from intrusion by channeling crash energy away from the passenger compartment.

Ford is amazing. yeah they have had there worse cars but also some of the greatest cars the world has ever seen. also i completely agree with kooly1. hybrids are also bad for the environment you have to drive them something like 300k miles before they help the environment and thats if it makes it passed 100k miles. it may not be as bad as driving a hummer but not by a whole lot. its better just to get a car with good gas millage excluding the hybrids

Ive never had a …
Ive never had a problem with Fords reliability ever in my life, I think in the past 2 or 3 years theyve been doing extremely well to keep a good name. Ford is one of the only car companies not providing many hybrids, only the Escape. Which is kool cuz Hybrids are ripoffs anyways but yeah. Ford needs a replacement for the Ford GT thats what they need lol i think this years lineup is great.

some white with a shaved head flipped me off in a 1996-2003 ford taurus today. he had an ugly big brown dog, with no fur in the back seat. driving one of those white taurus’s. he was making an illegal u-turn in the left hand lane as I was making a right turn. how the am I supposed to know he was going to do that?
I cut him off obviously, which resulted in him going to the left of my car, honking, then flipping the bird. you guys with Taurus’s.

Always remember, average earning & above groups demand a car that is reliable, looks nice, affordable, easy to maintain & availability of after sales service. That’s what u need especially in countries where buying a car is like paying for it with all u got then tied to loan for 5,7 or 9 yrs. People now think about all these & resale value. If those demands are met, the resale value will be good.

Ford Taurus 1985 used in Robocop was a revolutionary car adopted by most car manufacturers today – Mercedes, BMW, Toyota,Volkswagen, u name it. Ford never received any credits for inventing new design but instead being called a copycat/loser. Asians treat Ford worst followed by others. The new Ford Taurus needed a little more oval shape like Mondeo ’07 to make it futuristic. Ford USA needs to compete in world market instead of just hiding
